Home Chef Review – Getting Started
Home Chef… is it worth the hype? I will get started on the Home Chef review for the specific meals we received in a second, but before I jump into that I wanted to give an initial overview. Recently I came across a promotion for Home Chef. I had been wanting to try a food delivery box for awhile. With such a great deal I figured this had to be a “sign” that this was the perfect opportunity! Since we ended up loving it so much, I decided to share it with you guys! Just so it is clear, this is not sponsored in any way! These are all my own opinions.
First I want to start off by saying the packaging they do is amazing! Everything is in a box, fully insulated, and with 6 ice packs to keep everything cold. Each meal is portioned separately in a bag of its own, with the meat that goes along with it separate. The portions are very big! You’re definitely getting your money’s worth. You will be able to feed the number of people selected, most likely even with leftovers. The prep & cook time that they claim it will take can definitely be on the low side, especially if you aren’t very fast at chopping veggies.
The first night we had Sirloin with Fig and Red Wine Reduction, with rosemary-roasted potatoes, brussel sprouts, and goat cheese.
The directions were very easy to follow. The steaks did cook a bit oddly, but I think that may just be because I’m used to making steaks on a grill, not in a pan on the stove. With all of that said… it was AMAZING. I make brussel sprouts and potatoes quite often, I don’t typically add rosemary, but it was a great additionThe steaks were so tender and flavorful. The red wine and fig sauce was so, SO good. I would have never in a million years read that and thought it would be good, but I will definitely be making it in the future!
The second night we had Classic Chicken Piccata with angel hair pasta and lemon-caper sauce.
Oh. My. Gosh. Let me start off by saying I do not like lemon in my food, or so I thought. This automatically has become my FAVORITE food… ever. I’m not even kidding you, I was so happy to eat leftovers that I probably would have eaten it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My kids are also very reluctant to try new food. Both of them LOVED it, and ate leftovers 2 or 3 more times. Honestly, the chicken was quite bland without the sauce, but the both boys were “mmmm”ing even when eating the chicken, which is typically a struggle to get them to eat. Needless to say, hands down… best meal ever. It was also insanely easy to make. I will probably be making this weekly now… haha. Especially since my husband found a HUGE jar of capers at Costco for nearly nothing.
The third, and final, night we had Homestyle Chicken and Dumplings with peas and carrots.
If I had to choose a least favorite dish it would be this one. However, it was still very good. I did have to tweak it a little bit, but not enough that it was a hassle. I added shredded parmesan cheese to the dumpling “dough,” since I do that in the typical chicken and dumplings that I make and it makes it SO good. I also made it a second time later the next week and added a LOT (like… 1.5 cups less) less water. It was very soupy, where I personally like mine to be a bit thicker and “heartier.”
I would highly suggest trying Home Chef! The food was amazing. With a few of the meals we waited the full amount of days that they said it would last and the ingredients were fresh and held up perfectly. The meals were fairly quick and easy to prepare without a ton of prior cooking knowledge needed. And… did I mention that the food was amazing?!
I how you found this Home Chef review helpful! Let me know if you have ever tried Home Chef and how you liked it! Also, let me know it you’ve tried any other food delivery services and how you liked them.
